MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Mayor A C Wharton will speak to members of the National Press Club in Washington, DC on September 9 to discuss strategic infant mortality reduction efforts in Shelby County. Mayor Wharton’s appearance is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) national launch of Infant Mortality Awareness Month (September) to highlight the importance of collaborative work to reduce the high rates of infant mortality in the United States, and particular the significant disparities affecting racial and ethnic minority populations.

Mayor Wharton is featured as the cover story in Governing magazine: Metro Mayor - A C Wharton's struggle to unite Memphis.  The article is the first cover story for any Memphis or Shelby County elected official in the national magazine.

A C Wharton Jr. has believed in regional cooperation for years. As a candidate for mayor of Memphis, he’s about to get one last chance to go for it.

Wharton unveils campaign ad - "ONE MEMPHIS" PDF Print E-mail

In a 30-second spot that plays heavy on a unity theme, Shelby County Mayor A C Wharton released his first campaign commercial this week in his bid for Memphis Mayor.

The ad, titled "One Memphis," uses footage gathered at a rally last week at a campaign headquarters opening event. It will air on the major networks throughout Memphis this week.

"There is absolutely nothing we cannot overcome if we work toward that goal as one Memphis," Wharton says to a room of rousing supporters, cast against an epic-sounding score.
