Yacoubian says, weeks later, it is still Shelby County Mayor A C
Wharton's race to lose. The others that made-up the top three are
former mayoral candidate Carol Chumney and Mayor Pro Tem Myron Lowery.
Yacoubian says they're fighting for second. "Regardless of how
many other candidates enter the race, in my view, and based on the
polling data, those are the three that have a chance at becoming
mayor," Yacoubian said. At the time of the survey, City
Councilman Jim Strickland and Former City Councilman Jack Sammons were
considering a run. Yacoubian was able to see where those votes would
go, because he asked voters who would be their second pick for mayor. "Most
of Strickland's votes went to Carol Chumney and to democratic
candidates. Whereas, Jack Sammons' votes went to A C Wharton and some
of the republican candidates," Yacoubian said. Yacoubian expects
Lowery's poll numbers to go up while he's Mayor Pro Tem. He says Lowery
has made some good appointments. But he has made a mistake with City
Attorney Elbert Jefferson. "The last thing he needed was a legal controversy surrounding him," Yacoubian commented. |
